Episode 1

  • Communication is the foundation of every sales skill. If it isn't working, nothing else works either.
  • Buyers value listening above product knowledge or closing technique.
  • Too polished feels fake and too casual isn't taken seriously. Neither builds trust.
  • Aim to be deliberately human: warm but considered, natural but intentional.

Episode 2: The Barriers That Get in the Way

  • A communication barrier is anything that stops your message landing the way you meant it, and most of the time you cannot see it.
  • Noise is anything competing for the customer's attention, from a distracted buyer to a frozen screen share, and it does not stop when the call ends.
  • Assumptions creep in once customers start to look alike, so you stop asking and start filling gaps with your own version of what they need.
  • Emotion sits in the room on both sides, and channel mismatch means the right message delivered the wrong way.

Episode 3: Overcoming Those Barriers

  • Beat noise with preparation: check your tech before the meeting, pick the right moment, and send a short clear summary afterwards.
  • Beat assumptions with curiosity: treat every conversation as your first and let the customer tell you what they need.
  • Handle emotion by recognising it. What looks like resistance is often anxiety, and anxiety responds to reassurance, not pressure.
  • Match the complexity and sensitivity of your message to the richness of the channel.

Episode 4: Knowing Your Audience

  • The best salespeople prepare by thinking about who they are talking to, not just what they want to say.
  • Five minutes on the company website and LinkedIn gives you enough context to show you have done your homework.
  • TED questions (Tell, Explain, Describe) get customers talking properly. Gartner finds 70% of sales conversations fail to uncover full requirements.
  • People communicate differently: direct, analytical, relationship-driven, results-driven. Communicating in your style rather than theirs is a barrier in itself.

Episode 5: Choosing the Right Channel

  • The more important, complex or emotional the message, the more human the medium needs to be.
  • Text is for brief logistics only. Email documents and leaves a paper trail, but has no tone, so tread carefully with anything emotional.
  • Do not be afraid of the phone. It lets the customer hear your energy and warmth in a way email cannot.
  • A video call is an implied contract to be present and prepared. For high-value relationships and trust still being built, face to face has no substitute.

Episode 6: Your Personal Communication Plan

  • Who: build a genuine understanding of each customer, not just a list, and update it after every conversation.
  • What: be clear on what you want the customer to think, feel or do as a result, not just what you want to say.
  • How: match the channel to the message every time, and never default to email because it is easy.
  • Preparation before, reflection after. The salespeople who improve fastest treat every conversation as something to learn from.
