Video Summary
John presents a practical framework for improving bid and proposal win rates, drawing on more than 25 years of experience and a new Sales Proposal Playbook.

He recommends qualifying opportunities with four questions: Is it real? Do we want it? Can we win it? Can we deliver it? Teams should pursue opportunities selectively and begin preparing before an RFP arrives by building customer relationships, learning about the project and competitors, and anticipating requirements.

A winning proposal needs a clear story: why the customer should choose you over other bidders. Develop that story by considering the customer’s priorities, your capabilities, and the competition. Then plan each response before writing, focusing on what evaluators value and how to differentiate your offer.

John also advises writing for the customer, not about your own organization; supporting claims with evidence; being specific, concise, conversational, and visually engaging; and reviewing drafts against the scoring criteria. After each bid, capture lessons and apply them to future opportunities.

AI can assist with research, planning, drafting, and refinement, but it should be used responsibly, within client rules, and alongside human judgment. AI cannot replace strong fundamentals or a tailored, credible proposal.
