Video Summary
The webinar “Fearless Selling” explored how mental toughness can help sales professionals succeed in a role filled with rejection, pressure, and constant performance demands. Host Tom Liversedge introduced speakers John Tunstall and Doug Straharczyk, who explained that mental toughness is a personality trait affecting how people respond to stress, opportunity, challenge, and pressure.

Doug outlined the concept’s history, from Plato and the Stoics to modern research, and described the four core areas: control, commitment, challenge, and confidence. These are broken into eight factors, including life control, emotional control, goal orientation, achievement orientation, risk orientation, learning orientation, self-confidence, and interpersonal confidence. He emphasized that mental toughness is measurable and that people exist on a spectrum between toughness and sensitivity.

John connected the model directly to sales, showing how beliefs shape emotions, actions, and results. He argued that sustainable improvement requires understanding and changing underlying beliefs, not just surface behaviors. He also mapped the mental toughness factors to the sales cycle, from prospecting and pipeline-building to closing and handling objections.

The session concluded that sales success is largely mental, not physical, and that self-awareness, coaching, and targeted development can help salespeople perform at their best.
